The mining history of Greenland depicted on stamps

Mining in Greenland began well before the beginning of the twentieth century, the activities have often been based on local know how and local needs for certain types of material. At the beginning of the century, as a result of increased geological and technical know how, the first tendencies to a systematic search can been seen.

With this stamp series depicting Greenlandic mining history - which will span over five to six years - it is the intention to give an understanding of this development, from the early hopeful attempts right up to the present day sustainable industry.

The stamps feature examples from the first mines, where mining was attempted on an industrial scale. This occurred some 150 years ago.
