Australian post issued a set of stamp to celebrate Christmas this year. Christmas celebrates the anniversary of the birth of Jesus in the town of Bethlehem over two millennium ago.
When Jesus was born, an angel told the good news to shepherds tending their flocks. On hearing the news the shepherds went to Bethlehem to see the newborn babe. Three wise men, bearing gifts, also came from the East to visit the baby Jesus.
Bruce Goold’s artwork captures the essence of the Christmas story. He depicts the baby Jesus wrapped in swaddling cloth laying in a manger, normally used for feeding animals, surrounded by his parents, Mary and Joseph. The artwork also shows the angel announcing to the shepherds the good news that Christ the Lord has been born in Bethlehem.
