Jammu & Kashmir Definitives March 23,1960. (1960-2)




The disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir was the subject of new definitive series. Four values were released projecting map of Pakistan, the State of Jammu & Kashmir and part of India. Two small states Junagarh and Manavadar were also located on the map. The area of Jammu & Kashmir region is shown colourless with inscription JAMMU/ & KASHMIR/(Final Status Not Yet Determined)\". Other elements of the stamps included country name in English at left top, and in Bengali and Urdu at right. The denominations of the four stamps are; 6 pies (purple), 2 anna (brown red), 8 anna (green) and Rupee 1 (blue), are shown at bottom left below the map.
Locally recessed stamps were used as definitives. Later some values were overprinted SERVICE for official use and the Re.1 value is also known printed on the gum side.
