The stamps show different architectural constructions that are part of the declared "World Heritage", among which Lyon and Polanco palaces, historical monuments like the British Arc and Heroes of Iquique, Artilleria and Polanco lifts, and the traditional world's oldest trolley, which is still in operation.
The city of Valparaiso was declared a World Heritage site on July 2, 2003 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), after being named Cultural Capital of Chile, on 6 May of the same year. This designation implies official recognition to its historical, artistic, scientific, aesthetic, archaeological and anthropological wealth.
"With this new stamp series, we commemorate once again this amazing city which had enchanted many architects, poets, painters, artists and musicians, and through these eight stamps we will glorify through the world its unique buildings and colorful landscape," said general manager of CorreosChile, Patricio Tapia.
