2010 FIFA World South Africa

Korean post issued a postage stamp to commemorate the event of football world cup FIFA 2010.

The first World Cup to be held in the black continent, Africa, will be participated by a total of 32 teams: 14 from Europe, 5 from Africa, 4 from South America, 4 from Asia, 4 from Northern and Central America and 1 from Oceania. From June 11, 2010, the venerable tournament will run for one month in 10 stadiums across South Africa such as Cape Town, Pretoria, Durban, etc, with the final championship match being held on July 11 in Soccer City, Johannesburg.

Zakumi, the mascot for this World Cup, is the leopard that loves dancing and soccer. It has a green hair reminiscent of the green of the football pitch. Zakumi is said to mean “come to me” in the language of the Xhosa tribe in South Africa. It is hoped that this World Cup to be held in South Africa which was not even admitted into FIFA because of its apartheid policies will be both a successful event where people from around the world can harmonize and enjoy together, as well as a spectacular stage where the Korean players can fully exert their talents.
