The Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus will issue a stamp celebrating 600th Anniversary of Victory in the Battle of Grunwald.
The Battle of Grunwald was the decisive battle of the Great War 1409-1411 ranged by the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland against the knights of the Teutonic Order. It took place on July 15, 1410 near Grunwald and Tannenberg on the territory of the Order (now a province in Poland). The forces led by Grand Duke Vytaut and the King Jogaila defeated the enormous army of the Teutonic Order. The battle of Grunwald was one of the largest battles in Medieval Europe.
Belarus was a part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania at that time. Belarusian gonfanons of the joint army made a valuable contribution to the utter defeat of the Teutonic Order. But the Victory was gained at the cost of heavy sacrifice. In 1960 Polish authorities put a monument on the former battle-field.
