Edmonton teen puts her 'stamp' on photography contest

Patience has paid off for an Edmonton teen whose photograph of a Rufous hummingbird has won a Canadian Geographic photography contest as well as a place on one million stamps that will be distributed across Canada.

15-year-old Wing Yan Tam took over 100 shots and waited two hours to capture a Selasphorus rufus in mid flight, but the photograph of the tiny hummingbird displaying its wingspan became one of five winning photographs out of more than 6,400 entries from across the country.

Tam's photograph was selected as the best of the 15-and-under category of Canadian Geographic's second annual Canadian wildlife photography contest.

Tam also won this category last year with a photograph of a Canada goose gosling taken at Hawrelak Park.

The five winning photographs will also be featured in Canadian Geographic magazine's annual wildlife issue and will be included in a travelling exhibition organized by the Canadian Museum of Nature.
