The Ministry of Planning, Housing & the Environment, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Marine Resources, the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) and the Trinidad & Tobago Postal Corporation (TT Post) has produced a series of stamps in commemoration of the IYB.
The stamps highlight Trinidad & Tobago’s rich and diverse biodiversity through images of flora, fauna and various ecosystems. The production of the Commemorative Stamps is one of T&T’s major activities in observance of this international year. These miniature works of art, which will act as ambassadors of T&T’s rich biodiversity, will be sent to the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
The stamp series was also part of the International Stamp Exhibition at the London 2010: Festival of Stamps. The London 2010 Festival of Stamps is a year long celebration of stamps, stamp design and postal heritage. The Festival also marks the centenary of the accession of George V, the philatelist king.
As one of the materials produced in commemoration of the International Year of Biodiversity, they can be found in the International Year of Biodiversity Museum. The stamps will also be exhibited in Nagoya during the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity and also at the 66th UN General Assembly in 2011.
