“Let the children come to me” (Mark 10:14). This verse from Mark’s Gospel most appropriately describes the theme chosen for the annual postage stamp issue dedicated to Europe focusing this year on books for children.
The images on the stamps are taken from the book, The Bible Narrated for Children, produced by Gribaudo publishers. Depicted are two significant events: Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and Jesus surrounded by children. The representations throughout the book are works by artist Chiara Raineri. The illustrations accompany and complement the text with depictions of various scenes and personalities in the Old and New Testament shown with great clarity and faithful accuracy to the original text.
Fr. Martino Signoretto, a professor of Biblical studies at the Studio Teologico San Zeno and Verona’s Istituto Superiore di Scienze Religiose San Pietro Martire, contributed his expertise to the project.
