Priced at $12,000, the stamp is auctioning online alongside a proprietary $5 Green and Black piece:- Live bidding is now open in Michael E Aldrich's 64th auction of US stamps with a strong classic US section highlighted by several better items from the 1869 Issue. A nice showing of Washington-Franklins and high quality stamps is a particular highlight of the sale.
There are in total 532 lots of US, BOB and Revenue stamps. The key lots to look out for include:
A 30c Ultramarine & Carmine, a fine example of a very rare stamp withfewer than 75 copies known. With full original gum and excellent colour, it comes with an estimate (catalogue value) of $12,000.
The lengthy imperforate $1.90 Purple makes an appearance with a $10,000 listing. Faded, but still a relatively good colour for the issue, with a clear 'I. Fenno & Co' overprint, it will be highly coveted despite a thin-through toward the top.
A proprietary $5 Green & Black possesses strong colours and sharp impression, which despite some minor flaws and repairs sees it listed at $9,000.
There is also a good section of Plate Blocks and Match & Medicines. The sale takes place online and by post, with updates on current bids from a few days before the close of the auction on August 25.
