The Green snaketail is a dragonfly listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus. It is a very beautiful, easily recognizable dragonfly. It combines three colours: its eyes, head and thorax are green, while its abdomen is black and yellow.
The favourite habitat of green snaketails consists of relatively slow-flowing rivers and brooks with a gravelly or sandy bottom. Pollution of reservoirs is the main threat of the reduction of this dragonfly population. Only single green snaketails are found on the territory of Belarus.
The Green snaketail (Ophiogomphus cecilia) is also listed in the Red Book of Lithuania and it is protected in Europe.
The stamps are issued under the aegis of the nature protection organization World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and bear the WWF logo.
