A work by Zlatan Vrkljan, a contemporary Croatian visual artist, was selected for the motif of the stamps, while the stamps themselves were created by Orsat Frankovic and Ivana Vucic, designers from Zagreb.
This Easter, Croatian Post has decided to issue fourteen new commemorative stamps, each one portraying one Station of the Cross, the depiction of the final hours in the life of Jesus Christ.
The tradition of the Stations of the Cross originated in pilgrimages to Jerusalem, where pilgrims followed the footsteps of Christ to the cross. The artist, Zlatan Vrkljan, has created many sacral works, varying from oil paintings to stained glass, and has held exhibitions in Croatia and other countries in the world. He has also represented Croatia at the Venice Biennale.
