Japan Post celebrates the spring season by the issuance of "Peter Rabbit" stamps commemorating the 40th anniversary since the book was published in Japan.
Peter Rabbit is a fictional character in various children's stories by Beatrix Potter. He first appeared in The Tale of Peter Rabbit in 1902, and subsequently in five more books between 1904 and 1912. He appears as a character in the 1971 ballet film, The Tales of Beatrix Potter, in an animated episode of the BBC anthology series, The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends. Total circulation of the book series about Peter Rabbit is over 100 million copies worldwide; more than 12 million copies were sold in Japan.
The first series of stamps illustrates different characters ever appeared on the pages of the book "The World of Peter Rabbit": Peter Rabbit himself, Gloucester Mouse, Benjamin Bunny, Pigurin the Pig Brand, Brown Owl and grandfather Natokin, Tigi's aunt Hedgehog, Jimaima duck, Natokin squirrel, Tom Kitten.
The second stamp set illustrates Peter's family tree Fir, Peter’s mother and young sisters, Mother Odekake, farmer McGregor and different Peter's activities.
