The aviation industry is one of the key drivers underpinning the rapid development of Hong Kong into an export, tourism and logistics hub. The era of powered flight in Hong Kong was initiated by Mr Charles Van den Born, a pioneer from Belgium, who took to the sky over Sha Tin in a Farman biplane on March 18, 1911.
The design of the stamp sheetlet comprises a backdrop set in nostalgic colours depicting the busy flow of passenger and air traffic as well as skyscrapers along Hong Kong's shoreline. The core feature includes two stamps capturing a historic moment when the Farman biplane lifted off and its replica on display at the Hong Kong International Airport.
