'For the Sports' stamp series from Germany

The German Post has issued a set of four stamps dedicated to the popular sports in Germany. With this series of stamps, the Federal Ministry of Finance and the German Sports Aid Foundation are getting additional revenues devoted to the promotion of sports. The Sports Aid supports young talents in the sports boarding schools.

The two first stamps illustrate a goalkeeper and a striker from the women’s football. The women's and girls' soccer has developed rapidly in recent years. This success is primarily due to the remarkable success of the German women's national team. It won seven European titles and two world titles. In 2011 the third Women's World Cup will be held in Germany from 26.06.2011 to 17.07.2011.

The third stamp is dedicated to the Gymnastics Championships 2011 in Berlin. From 04 to 10 April 2011 found in, the European Championships in gymnastics for men and women will be held in the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin with participants from 38 countries. A total of twelve titles will be awarded in men’s and women’s jump, uneven bars, balance beam and floor and the men on the floor, pommel horse, rings, jump, parallel bars and high bar.

The last stamp commemorates the Hockey Championship in Mönchengldbach 2011. From 20 to 28 August in Mönchengladbach the European Men’s championship and the European women’s championship at once will be held in Germany with men participants from Belgium, Germany, Britain, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Russia and Spain and women participants from Azerbaijan, Belgium, Germany, England, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands and Spain.
