ASIFA was founded in France by Norman McLaren, John Hubley and a number of other great artists in the world of animation. Ever since, the association has played a central role in promoting animation throughout the world by aiding international events and cultivating ties among artists from around the world. ASIFA numbers over 5000 members in 58 countries.
ASIFA Israel was founded in 1985 and has organized dozens of lectures with artists from Israel and abroad, as well as film screenings, workshops, etc. Since 2000 the organization has been organizing ASIF - an annual celebration of the year's productions.
The sheet is comprised of 15 stamps which vary slightly from one to the next and feature (from left to right and top to bottom) an animated cycle of motion: a farmer picks a sabra fruit, peels it and hands it to a girl who then eats it, and so forth. This stamp sheet illustrates the essence of animation in a most unique way.
In order to illustrate the movement of animation the Israel Philatelic Service has produced a stamp booklet in the form of a "flip book". The pages are flipped and the images give the impression of movement. The booklet consists of 15 pages each with a self-adhesive Israeli Animation stamp.
