Harry Potter stamps coming to USA

Harry Potter may now be playing at the movies, but Dumbledore and other characters from the J.K. Rowling series may also be seen in a postal stamp exhibit at the Spellman Museum in Weston, MA (USA) from Sept. 17 to Oct. 5.

According to a press release, the award-winning travelling exhibit will feature real postage stamps from numerous countries including France, Great Britain, the Republic of Taiwan, and the Isle of Man, all of which feature images from the Harry Potter books and movies.

In addition, the exhibit includes stamps related to various themes and objects in the seven book series such as the types of trees used by Mr. Olivander to make his wands, pictures of dragons and images of flowers related to many of the names of female characters and dragons.

Other postal items related to the books' plots include canceled envelopes from Charring Cross Station, home of the Leaky Cauldron Pub, and the town of Dudley in England.

The exhibit, which includes over 750 stamps and other forms of postal material, will be in the museum's main gallery. The museum will provide games and puzzles related to the stamps and the Potter books for all Potter fans to complete and win stamp prizes.

The exhibit was prepared by Evan Siegling, a collector and a member of numerous stamp organizations including the American Topical Association, the American Philatelic Society and the Germany Philatelic Society. Over the last two years Siegling has exhibited these Potter stamps in California, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
