The International Islamic University was established in 1980. It was conferred the International status in 1985 through an Ordinance No. xxx of 1985. The International Islamic University is a unique institution of higher learning, which integrates the two parallel streams of religious and common education systems prevailing in the Muslim world. It provides a system based on universal Islamic principles capable of responding to present day needs and requirements. Besides other functions one of the important roles of the University is to provide technical education to prepare middle and higher level manpower for local as well as International markets.
The aim and objectives of the International Islamic University are:-
* To provide for all-round and harmonious development of individuals and society,
* To develop Islamic character and personality among the students, teachers and the supporting staff in the University,
and other branches of knowledge,
in accordance with the norms of Islam and take necessary steps for developing practical solutions of contemporary problems.
At present the University has 09 faculties having more than 20,000 students at its role out of which 6500 are female students. University provides pick & drop facilities to its students within twin cities ranging from Taxila to Rawat. It also provides medical facilities to male and female students through its two medical centre at Male and Female Campuses. Hostel facilities to 2300 male and 1600 female students are also being provided by the University.
On the occasion of Silver Jubilee of International Islamic University, Islamabad Pakistan Post is issuing a Commemorative Postage Stamp of Rs.8/= denomination on December 15, 2010.
