The Guiding movement started in London, England, in 1909 and reached Canada the next year when the first troupe was formed in St. Catharines, Ont.
Within two years there were troupes in every province. The Girl Guides of Canada logo and a number of badges also appear on the stamp. Among the badges featured is a stamp-collecting badge.
The stamp comes in booklets of 10 and additional girls are featured on the booklet cover as well as the official first day cover. Taken together, they show girls at all five levels of Guiding - Sparks, Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders and Rangers.
This is the third time Canada Post has saluted the Girl Guides of Canada with a commemorative stamp issue. The first was in 1960, for the Golden Jubilee, and the second was in 1985, for the movement's 75th anniversary.
