Tajikistan to issue 3-, 200-, and 500-somoni notes 10 September 2010

According to a 31 August 2010 report on Lentra.ru, Tajikistan will issue new 3-, 200-, and 500-somoni banknotes on 10 September. At present the largest denomination is the 100-somoni note (US$22.80), Pick 19.

According to a National Bank of Tajikistan press release dated 31 August 2010, a portrait of Abu Abdullo Rudaki, the founder of Tajik-Persian literature, will grace the 500-somoni note, which will be introduced on the day celebrating the 19th anniversary of Tajikistan's independence. The 200-somoni note depicts Nusratullo Makhsum, Tajikistan's hero, and the 3-somoni note will feature Shirinsho Shotemur, one of the leaders of the Tajik SSR.
